FENDER MUSIC AUSTRALIA
With a history that dates back to 1946, Fender electric guitars, acoustic guitars and Fender amps are, to this day, still one of the most recognisable musical instruments on earth. Fender instruments have defined entire genres of music and inspired some of the world's greatest - and greatest upcoming musicians.
FENDER GUITARS AUSTRALIA
The Fender electric guitar brilliance took shape in 1951 when Leo Fender-designed and mass-produced the very first electric guitar, the Fender Telecaster, with its legendary 50's finish and maple fingerboard. At the time, the much loved "Tele" was known as a Broadcaster and Esquire, pending if you opted for one or two pickups. With historic success, Leo Fender and Fender USA also released the Fender Precision Bass in the same year.
FENDER TELECASTER AUSTRALIA
The Telecaster’s simple design, along with its immense versatility and easy playability for almost any style has led to the design being as popular now as it ever was. With a single-cutaway body like a Les Paul and two very different sounding single-coil pickups, the bridge being the Tele’s bright spank and twangy tone, and the neck pickup being thick and creamy on many teles. The telecaster headstock features six-a-side single-side tuners, and to this day, still uses the barrel-shaped bridge saddles that provide a tone of its own.
Telecaster bodies were originally handcrafted using solid pieces of wood, called blanks, and then mass-produced as the first guitar was able to be. Prior to the telecaster's simplicity, guitars were hand-carved, and this was a massive shift in the industry and a big part of Fender's success as a business.
FENDER TELECASTER, THE RELIABLE ROCK MACHINE
Fender didn’t, unlike other manufacturers at the time, have a traditional set neck. Nor did Fender have angled headstocks. Instead, Leo Fender routed a neck pocket into the telecaster body and then bolted the neck into it, making mass production so much simpler. This simple innovation also allowed the telecaster to be super strong, and if the neck did get damaged then the neck to be easily removed, fixed, or entirely replaced.
The original 50's Telecaster necks were crafted from a single block or piece of maple, without a separate fingerboard as a way to produce instruments faster and cheaper. Some high-end luthiers at the time, who used ebony or rosewood fingerboards, found Fender’s methods strange. Little did they know that this simple design was going to be one of the longest-lasting electric guitar designs to date.
The Telecaster's simplicity and popularity paved the way for other solid-body electric guitar manufacturers, some making direct copies or knockoffs of the original Telecaster design. Some of the Japanese models are to this day, highly sort after and rising in price. The success of the telecaster and its influence on music through every single generation is nothing short of remarkable.
FAMOUS FENDER TELECASTER PLAYERS
For over 60 years, the Tele has remained in continuous production and the workhorse for absolutely countless guitarists.
Famous Fender Teles players include Keith Richards – The Rolling Stones, Steve Cropper – Booker T. & The M.G.’s / Otis Redding, Jeff Buckley, Graham Coxon – Blur, Andy Summers – The Police, Muddy Waters, Jimmy Page – Led Zeppelin, George Harrison – The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Jonny Greenwood – Radiohead, Brad Paisley, Danny Gatton and thousands more.
A lot of these telecaster and strat players have also played other famous brands like Gibson, Gibson SG, Gibson Les Paul, Gibson ES-335 TDC, Gibson Explorer, Gibson L-4 Archtop - and other brands like Gretsch and more. But when it comes to a signature tone, little comes close to a tele or strat.
THE FENDER STRATOCASTER BRILLIANCE
Likely the most used, and most famous electric guitar in the history of popular music, the Fender Stratocaster is so widely popular as it was designed directly for the guitarist - like the tele. Leo Fender himself wasn’t a musician, but he was an amazing entrepreneur, so he asked professional musicians already using the Telecaster what they would like to change to build the “perfect guitar". Thanks to those players, the Stratocaster now has super comfy forearm and stomach contours, great fret options, vintage to jumbo, 3-pickup arrangement, a simple but dynamic volume and tone control arrangement, and of course, a tremolo that was found on no other guitar at the time.
Because the Stratocaster is also so easy to mod, you’ll find the Stratocaster being used by players of almost every genre, from Jim Root of heavy metal band Slipknot to funker's like John Frusciante of the RHCP, and a stack of blues and rock players. The strat is so versatile, that many players say if they had to choose an island guitar, it'd be a Stratocaster!
FENDER STRATOCASTER, MADE FOR THE PLAYER
More proof that the Stratocaster is a legend, is that it's barely changed since Leo designed it - that's one serious quality guitar, with so many great options today like the Stratocaster HSS, Strat HH, 50s Stratocaster, 60s Stratocaster, Ash Body or Alder body, Maple and Rosewood neck options, Pau Ferro Fretboard, Pau Ferro Fingerboard. the pickups, from the bridge pickup to the neck pickup are also full of options. And then there are bodies with a gloss finish or nitro finish, 3-Color Sunburst or stunning colours of all types, the selection of instruments Fender put out just in the Stratocaster range is phenomenal. It's a huge range.
Personally, we love the player plus range for value, but we love all Fender electric guitars & fender amps. Coleman's music in Melbourne is an authorised Fender Dealer with a huge range of limited stock. When it comes to features, the features you'll find on a ’54 are also what you’ll find on a 2022 Stratocaster! These include an alder or ash body, easy access double cutaways, perfectly formed forearm and stomach contours, maple neck with maple board or rosewood fingerboard, 3 single-coil pickups with all different magnets, non-locking tremolo, 25.5“ scale length neck, a blade selector, or switch a simple 3-knob control layout. When the recipe is right, don't change it!
