The Gibson SG Standard rocks the classic looks and features associated with the late 60's style SG models sought after by many.
Originally called the Les Paul SG (Gibson had discontinued the Les Paul shape as we currently know it in 1960), the SG which stands for "solid guitar" was the sound for the 1960's!
Used by artists such as Sister Rosetta, Eric Clapton of Cream, Robby Krieger of The Doors and Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath the SG would go on to be a huge part of the sound of 60's and 70s rock and blues.
The SG Standard as we know it today is closer to the late 60s models and the 2021 SG has the rounded profile mahogany neck and bound rosewood fingerboard. This instrument features the long tenon 19th fret neck joint, and a solid mahogany body provide the backbone for singing sustain.
The SG's body shape and double cut body allows the player almost uninhibited access to the fretboard and its lightweight body is both easier and more comfortable as a stage instrument.
Let's not forget the Nitro finish, that makes the famous aged guitars so famous. The GIBSON SG Standard is a beautiful guitar, no matter what angle you look at it from. With timeless finishes, the hardest part will be choosing just one!
The 490R and 490T Alnico II pickups provide the power to drive. These pickups have been the backbone of the Gibson tone for years, featured in the early Les Paul Standards and still in the modern Studio models. The black, 5-ply, full-face pickguard set this SG Standard apart from others... a truly versatile classic.
