The EarthQuaker Devices Half Life packs a crushing octave distortion and clean boost into a compact, pedalboard-friendly stompbox. Built in collaboration with Sunn O))), it takes inspiration from the legendary Life Pedal circuit and delivers massive, saturated guitar tones without taking up half your board.

Heavy Octave Distortion in a Compact Pedal
The Amplitude side combines distortion with a blendable analog octave-up circuit. Keep the octave low for extra edge and texture, or wind it up for a more aggressive fuzz-like voice that cuts through with wild harmonic character.
As with many analog octave circuits, it works best for single-note lines, especially higher up the neck with the neck pickup.
Three Clipping Modes
The Half Life gives you three clipping options to shape the feel and response of the distortion:
OpAmp – open, loud and grinding with no clipping diodes
Asymm – smoother, slightly compressed and amp-like
This makes it easy to match the pedal to different guitars, amps and playing styles.
Clean MOSFET Boost
The Magnitude side is a clean MOSFET boost designed to hit your amp harder without heavily colouring your tone. Use it to push a valve amp into breakup, add more presence for leads, or stack it with the distortion side for even more weight.
The octave distortion and boost sections each have their own footswitch, so you can use them separately or together.
Expression Control for Octave Blends
The Half Life includes an expression input for controlling the octave blend hands-free. This opens up creative options for octave swells, shifting textures and more dramatic live performance sounds.
