Description
PRELOVED BOSS NS-2 Noise Suppressor
Good preloved condition. Fully tested and working properly. No box included.
The BOSS NS-2 Noise Suppressor is one of those pedals that has quietly become a pedalboard standard. Designed to reduce unwanted noise and hum without simply chopping off your guitar signal, it's particularly useful with high-gain amps, distortion pedals, compressors and larger pedalboards where noise can quickly build up.
What makes the NS-2 especially useful is its Send and Return loop. Rather than treating your entire pedalboard with a basic noise gate, you can place your noisy gain pedals inside the NS-2's loop and let it control them much more effectively.
Clean Up a Noisy Rig
High-gain sounds are great until you stop playing.
Distortion, overdrive, compression and high-gain amplifier channels can amplify everything from pickup noise to pedal hiss. The NS-2 is designed to reduce that unwanted background noise while retaining the natural attack and decay of your playing.
The Threshold control determines when the suppression begins, while Decay lets you adjust how naturally the gate closes as your notes fade.
More Than a Simple Noise Gate
The NS-2 features Input, Output, Send and Return connections, allowing it to monitor your clean guitar signal while separately controlling noisy pedals placed in its loop.
A common setup is:
Guitar → NS-2 Input → NS-2 Send → Drive/Distortion Pedals → NS-2 Return → NS-2 Output → Amp
This can be considerably more effective than simply putting a noise gate at the end of your pedal chain.
Players using high-gain amps can also incorporate the amplifier's effects loop into more advanced NS-2 setups.
Reduction & Mute Modes
The NS-2 offers two operating modes.
Reduction mode provides normal noise suppression while you're playing.
Mute mode lets you silence the output completely using the footswitch, which can be handy between songs, when changing guitars or whenever you need the rig completely quiet.
Power Other BOSS Pedals
Like several classic BOSS compact pedals, the NS-2 also features a DC Out connection.
When used with a suitable BOSS power supply and daisy-chain cable, the NS-2 can distribute power to additional compatible pedals on your board.

Who Is It For?
The NS-2 is particularly useful if you're running:
- High-gain distortion
- Fuzz and overdrive pedals
- High-gain amplifier channels
- Compressors
- Single-coil guitars in noisy environments
- Large pedalboards with accumulated background noise
It's especially popular with rock and metal players, but there's nothing genre-specific about it. If your rig is noisy when you're not playing, an NS-2 can be useful.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the BOSS NS-2 a noise gate?
Essentially yes, but its design is more sophisticated than a basic gate. The Send/Return loop allows the NS-2 to monitor your guitar while applying suppression to the noisy section of your signal chain, which can produce a more natural result when set correctly.
Where should I put the NS-2 on my pedalboard?
For a simple setup, you can place it after your noisy gain pedals. For better results, place your overdrive and distortion pedals inside the NS-2's Send/Return loop.
Will the NS-2 affect sustain?
It can if the Threshold is set too aggressively. Setting the Threshold and Decay correctly allows notes to decay naturally while still reducing unwanted noise when you're not playing.
Can I use it with bass?
Yes. The NS-2 can also be used with bass guitar and other instrument-level signals.
Can it power other pedals?
Yes. The DC Out can distribute power to compatible pedals when the NS-2 is being powered by an appropriate adaptor and used with a suitable daisy-chain cable.
Does this one come with the original box?
No. The original box is not included with this preloved example.
Our Take
The BOSS NS-2 has been around for decades for good reason. It's tough, straightforward and, once you understand how to use the Send and Return loop, can be much more effective than simply sticking a basic noise gate at the end of your pedalboard.
For high-gain rigs in particular, it's one of those practical pedals that can make the entire setup feel cleaner and more controlled.
