Description
PRELOVED Gibson L-5S (1977) — Cherry Sunburst
This all-original 1977 L-5S represents one of just 301 produced that year, making it a rare and highly desirable example from what many consider the model’s definitive period for features and appointments.
The Gibson L-5S is one of the coolest “luxury-meets-rock” designs Gibson ever made—an L-5-inspired, solidbody instrument loaded with high-end appointments like multi-ply binding, an ebony fingerboard with block inlays, and a distinctly bright, articulate response thanks to its maple-heavy build. The model debuted in the early ’70s as a solidbody counterpart to Gibson’s famous L-5 archtop, and evolved from early low-impedance electronics to more conventional humbuckers as the decade progressed.
This all-original 1977 example is a particularly desirable snapshot of the model’s later ‘70s spec—described by one respected vintage dealer as a year where the features “all came together,” with standard-output “tarback” humbuckers and classic L-5S styling.
