The Muscle Car Orange story – from ’73 Camaro to JS classic

The JS2410 first appeared in 2013 as a high-end addition to the Ibanez JS line. It was the first JS model to introduce an alder body, chosen specifically to give Joe a bit more punch and midrange cut so his leads would slice through a busy mix.

The now-iconic Muscle Car Orange finish has a surprisingly literal origin story. During rehearsals with Chickenfoot, Joe walked into a car workshop across the street and spotted a 1973 Camaro in a blazing orange paint job with plenty of chrome under the bonnet. He snapped a photo, sent it straight to Ibanez, and that became the inspiration for the JS2410’s colour.

Originally, he wanted white racing stripes over that orange, but Ibanez couldn’t guarantee laser-straight stripes on every production model – so they kept the orange and created MCO: Muscle Car Orange as we know it today.

It’s a proper “wall-of-the-stage” colour – bright, bold and unmistakably Satch.

Joe worked closely with Ibanez on this arm – tweaking the angle, length and weight – so it responds more naturally whether you’re adding subtle vibrato or going in for full divebombs.

Controls:

  • Master Volume with high-pass filter (push/pull) – retain top-end sparkle when you roll back the volume

  • Master Tone with coil-split (push/pull) – tap into single-coil-style tones when you need extra snap and chime

  • 3-way toggle switch – neck / both / bridge

Between the high-pass filter and coil split, you can cover everything from glassy cleans and funky single-coil rhythms through to saturated, sustaining leads that are pure Satch.

How does the JS2410 play and feel?

On paper the JS2410 looks like a pure shred machine, but in the hands it feels surprisingly versatile and welcoming:

  • The slim JS neck profile (around 20–22 mm from first to twelfth fret) is fast without feeling wafer-thin or unstable.

  • The contoured body and rounded neck heel keep upper-fret access smooth, so 24-fret runs and wide stretches don’t feel like hard work.
