AMPEG Rocket Bass-108 30W Bass Combo

AMPEG Rocket Bass RB-108 30W Bass Combo

The Ampeg Rocket Bass RB-108 is a compact 30-watt bass combo designed for home practice, lessons and players who want proper Ampeg character without needing a large amp.

With 30 watts of power through an 8-inch speaker, the RB-108 is small enough to live comfortably at home but gives you much more control over your bass sound than a basic beginner practice amp. The Ampeg Legacy preamp, 3-band EQ and built-in Super Grit Technology (SGT) overdrive let you move from clean, rounded bass tones through to a more driven Ampeg growl.

For practising, there's also an Aux input for playing along with backing tracks and a headphone output for silent practice.

Classic Ampeg Tone in a Practice Amp

Ampeg has a long history of building bass amplifiers, and the Rocket Bass range brings some of that familiar character into a much more compact format.

The RB-108 uses an Ampeg Legacy preamp with Bass, Mid and Treble controls, giving you straightforward control over the important parts of your bass tone.

Keep things clean for traditional bass sounds, add some midrange to help your playing cut through, or engage SGT when you want something with more grit and attitude.

Built-In SGT Overdrive

One of the features that makes the RB-108 particularly interesting at this size is Ampeg's Super Grit Technology overdrive.

SGT adds warm, driven character inspired by the sound of an Ampeg amp being pushed harder. It's useful for rock and alternative sounds, or simply for adding some extra texture to your everyday bass tone.

There are no complicated menus or presets. Engage SGT, adjust the EQ and play.

Great for Home Practice

The RB-108 is particularly well suited to practising at home.

A 3.5mm Aux input lets you connect a phone, tablet or other audio source and play along with songs, lessons or backing tracks. The 3.5mm headphone output allows you to practise quietly when running the speaker isn't practical.

It also provides both 0dB and -15dB inputs, giving you an easy way to accommodate basses with different output levels.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Ampeg RB-108 good for beginners?

Yes. It's particularly well suited to beginners because the controls are straightforward, while the 3-band EQ and SGT overdrive give players plenty of room to experiment with different bass sounds as they progress.

Is the RB-108 loud enough for gigs?

The RB-108 is primarily a practice amp. At 30 watts with an 8-inch speaker, we wouldn't choose it for playing with a loud drummer or a full band. If you need an Ampeg Rocket Bass for rehearsals or gigs, one of the larger models such as the RB-112, RB-115 or RB-210 is a better fit. Ampeg itself positions the RB-108 as the practice model in the Rocket Bass range.

Can I use headphones with the RB-108?

Yes. There's a dedicated 3.5mm headphone output, making it a good option for quiet home practice.

Can I play music through the amp while I practise?

Yes. The Aux input allows you to connect an external audio source so you can play along with songs, lessons or backing tracks.

Does the Ampeg RB-108 have overdrive?

Yes. It includes Ampeg's SGT (Super Grit Technology) overdrive, giving you access to a warmer, grittier bass sound without needing a separate overdrive pedal.

Does the RB-108 have an XLR DI output?

No. The RB-108 does not have an XLR line output. Ampeg includes this feature on the larger Rocket Bass models, but not the RB-108.

The Ampeg Rocket Bass RB-108 is a straightforward little bass combo that gets the important things right: good bass tone, useful EQ, built-in drive and practical home-practice features.
