PRELOVED BOSS HR-2 Harmonist
Preloved BOSS pedal. Please contact us for more information about this particular pedal's cosmetic condition and included accessories.
The BOSS HR-2 Harmonist is a cult favourite from the 1990s — and a clever piece of pedal history. Released in 1994, it was BOSS's first dedicated harmony stompbox, giving guitarists the ability to add one or two intelligent harmony voices to a single-note melody without a rack-mounted processor.
Whether you're chasing soaring twin-guitar lead lines, harmonised melodies or shimmering detuned textures, the HR-2 puts a surprising amount of creative control under your foot.
Two Independent Harmony Voices
Unlike a basic pitch shifter that simply moves every note by a fixed interval, the HR-2 uses your chosen KEY to generate musically appropriate harmonies as you play single-note lines. The two voices can be set and balanced independently, giving you everything from subtle reinforcement to rich, layered three-part guitar lines when the original note is included.
Classic Rock Harmonies Without Another Guitarist
Each voice can be assigned intervals including thirds, fourths, fifths, sixths and octaves above or below your original pitch. Set one voice for an expressive lead harmony or bring both in for fuller melodic arrangements — particularly useful for classic rock, melodic metal and instrumental guitar.
Detune for Width and Movement
The HR-2 isn't limited to obvious harmonies. Its detune settings create gently offset pitches that thicken your original signal and produce a shimmering, chorus-like effect. It's a great option for players who enjoy experimenting with pitch-based sounds.
Independent Levels and Useful Connections
The E. LEVEL A and B controls let you mix each generated voice into your dry guitar sound. Two output jacks support flexible routing, while the dedicated DETECTOR IN allows a separate signal to be used for pitch detection — a thoughtful feature for more elaborate rigs.
A Discontinued BOSS Classic
Produced during the 1990s, the HR-2 is an interesting piece of BOSS history. The company's later pitch effects built on ideas explored here, but the dedicated twin-voice layout makes the HR-2 distinctive in its own right.

Our Take
The HR-2 is one of those older BOSS pedals that still makes us smile. Two harmony voices, independent levels and detune sounds make it genuinely fun to experiment with. It's a specialist effect rather than an always-on stompbox, but for the right player that is exactly the attraction.
