The Fender Kurt Cobain Jaguar recreates one of the most recognisable modified offset guitars of the early '90s, based on the heavily customised 1965 Jaguar used by Kurt Cobain during Nirvana's breakthrough era.
Rather than simply adding signature details to a standard Jaguar, Fender recreated many of the modifications found on Cobain's original instrument. The result is a Jaguar with a very different personality to the traditional single-coil model, combining the short-scale feel of a classic Fender offset with a pair of powerful DiMarzio humbuckers.
The neck position features a DiMarzio PAF 36th Anniversary DP103, delivering a warm and articulate humbucker sound, while the bridge is fitted with the considerably hotter DiMarzio Super Distortion DP100. Together they provide plenty of range from cleaner and warmer sounds through to thick, aggressive overdrive and distortion.
The electronics also differ from a conventional Jaguar. A three-way toggle handles pickup selection, while three chrome-dome knobs provide individual volume controls for the neck and bridge pickups plus a master tone control. The traditional Jaguar-style rhythm circuit remains for additional tonal options.
The 24" scale maple neck features a comfortable Modern C profile, bound rosewood fingerboard, 9.5" radius and 22 medium-jumbo frets. Hardware includes a black chrome Adjusto-Matic bridge, vintage-style floating tremolo with lock button and Gotoh sealed tuning machines.
Finished in 3-Color Sunburst with a tortoiseshell pickguard, the Kurt Cobain Jaguar was deliberately given an aged, Road Worn-style appearance to recreate the character of Cobain's original instrument. Some of the visible ageing and wear is therefore part of the factory appearance of the model rather than subsequent damage.
This particular example was Made in Mexico, circa 2016, and is in excellent preloved condition. It includes its Fender hard case and tremolo arm.
