PRELOVED WAMPLER Cryptid Fuzz

The Wampler Cryptid Fuzz is an original fuzz design from Brian Wampler that combines NPN and PNP transistors with FET stages to create a wide range of vintage-inspired and more extreme fuzz textures. It can move from thick, sustaining fuzz through to loose, gated and splattery sounds without relying on a simple clone of a classic circuit.
With six controls plus two three-way switches, the Cryptid gives you far more shaping control than a typical fuzz pedal, making it easy to tailor the response to different guitars and amps.
Original Wampler Fuzz Circuit
The Cryptid uses a mix of transistor and FET stages to deliver a broad range of fuzz character. The Fuzz control sets the overall gain level, while the Character control behaves like a bias control, moving from tighter sounds through to looser, spitty and gated textures.
Chime & Tight Switching
The three-way Chime switch changes the high-frequency response before clipping, while the three-way Tight switch adjusts the amount of bass entering the circuit. Together, they let you move between brighter, fuller, tighter and more open fuzz tones.
Independent Tone Shaping
Volume and Tone provide straightforward output and post-clipping EQ control, while the separate Chime and Tight switches work earlier in the circuit. That gives the Cryptid a more interactive feel than a simple one-tone-control fuzz.

The Cryptid is a really flexible fuzz. The Character, Chime and Tight controls let you shape not just the tone, but the way the pedal reacts under your fingers. It can sound thick and smooth, or deliberately unstable and gated, which makes it much more versatile than the average three-knob fuzz.
