Description
PRELOVED YAMAHA CPX500 Acoustic/Electric – Black w/Case
Preloved condition. Supplied with case.
The Yamaha CPX500 in Black is a full-bodied acoustic/electric from Yamaha’s long-running CPX range, designed for players who want more acoustic volume and low-end presence than the slimmer APX body while still keeping the comfort and stage-ready practicality Yamaha is known for.
This earlier CPX500 uses Yamaha’s Compass-style medium-jumbo cutaway body, with a spruce top, nato back and sides, nato neck and rosewood fingerboard and bridge. It has a strong, balanced acoustic voice with enough body for unplugged playing, while the onboard Yamaha electronics make it equally useful for rehearsals, gigs and recording.
Finished in Black gloss, this example also comes with a case, making it a very practical secondhand package for anyone after a dependable acoustic/electric that can handle both home playing and stage work.
The Yamaha CPX Body Shape
The CPX series was designed as the fuller-bodied counterpart to Yamaha’s popular APX acoustic/electric guitars.
Where the APX uses a thinner body aimed heavily at stage comfort, the CPX uses a medium-jumbo cutaway body with a body depth of approximately 95–115mm. That extra depth gives the guitar a more substantial unplugged sound, with stronger bass response and a broader acoustic feel.
The cutaway still gives you good access to the upper frets, so it remains a comfortable guitar for players who move between rhythm and lead work.
Spruce Top with Nato Back and Sides
The CPX500 uses a spruce top with nato back and sides, paired with a nato neck and rosewood fingerboard and bridge.
It’s a proven Yamaha combination that gives the guitar a clear attack from the spruce top while the deeper CPX body adds warmth and low-end support.
The result is a guitar that works well for open chords, strumming, fingerstyle and general singer-songwriter use without becoming overly boomy when amplified.
Yamaha System55T Electronics
This generation of CPX500 is fitted with Yamaha’s System55T 1-way pickup and preamp system.
The onboard controls include:
- Master Volume
- 3-band EQ
- Adjustable midrange frequency control
- Built-in chromatic tuner
The piezo pickup gives you a direct, reliable signal for an acoustic amp, PA system, recording interface or DI box, while the EQ controls let you quickly shape the sound for different rooms and stages.
Comfortable Yamaha Playability
The CPX500 uses a 650mm / 25 9/16-inch scale length with a 43mm nut width, giving it a familiar full-size acoustic feel.
The neck is comfortable without feeling oversized, and the cutaway body makes higher fret access easier than on a traditional non-cutaway dreadnought.
Chrome die-cast Yamaha tuners keep the hardware straightforward and dependable, while the rosewood fingerboard and bridge maintain the traditional acoustic feel.
Black Gloss Finish
The Black gloss finish gives this CPX500 a clean, understated stage look, particularly with the chrome hardware and simple Yamaha appointments.
It’s also a finish that suits the CPX design well, giving the guitar a slightly more modern appearance than the more traditional natural-finish acoustic versions.
